Historically, these geometric designs were depicted on fabrics by the Mapuche Indians that inhabited vast areas of Argentina, including the regions of Patagonia and the Pampas. These designs were not only traditional, but also, according to the colours, they served to indicate hierarchy and the triumphs of the bearer. For example, black was associated with nobility, and red referred to the blood or bravery of a soldier. These patterns also mimic the vast mountain ranges of Argentina.
